We had to close our offices and stop our face-to-face activities but we continued to work hard to empower and support Islington residents.

Examples of the practical help and support we have been able to provide include

  • Getting emergency food parcels to vulnerable residents and linking them up with community food hubs for regular food deliveries.
  • Helping people access grants so that they can afford food and other essentials including baby care supplies for a new born.
  • Ensuring that older residents who are usually cared for by family members who can no longer visit due to the lockdown are linked into care from social services.
  • Keeping in touch with the residents who use our Good Neighbours Schemes to help maintain their health and wellbeing.
  • Linking some of our most isolated and vulnerable residents who are not allowed to leave their homes to a befriender who phones them regularly to have a chat and check that they are okay.
  • Making appointments for residents with specialist advisers on welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment issues.
