Many residents are having to make adjustments to their budgets and have to make some difficult decisions about their spending as they navigate the rises in the cost of living. At Help on Your Doorstep, we are working hard to provide support to Islington residents so they have information, advice, and support to navigate this challenging time.
We’ve been working hard to ensure that services are being brought to the residents who need support. To do this, we have been running a series of health and well-being events from community spaces in Canonbury, Barnsbury and Caledonian in April.
In January, our Bemerton Good Neighbours Scheme launched a new community music project in partnership with London Symphony Orchestra (LSO). Together with LSO, we delivered a 6-week course from the Jean Stokes Community Centre to engage residents in making music together.
Since May 2019, we have been working with the Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR) to evaluate our Connecting for Change programme, a four-year initiative funded by The National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF). This programme provides ongoing support, advice and referrals for residents experiencing challenges in Islington so they get the support they need to thrive and live well.
